Regarding this surname there are no variations,m nor relation to other names such as AGAR or the Scandinavian AGAARD. The only mispellings found [by this researcher] are the 1790 Census of Dutchess County, NY [EAGARD] or Weaver's "Ancient Windham. [Egard.] Nothing is known for certain about John the immigrant's life. He is assumed born either Wales or Scotland and died before 1685, possibly at sea. - Roberts' Agard Genealogy 5

An entry in the Record Commissioners report of Boston births, baptisms, marriages and deaths 1630-1699 appears under 1683: "Esther of John and Esther Agard b 7-16." Genealogist Daniel A Roberts hypothesizes this entry refers to the Esther Agard, widow, who marries Samuel Storrs and moves to Mansfield. [He further notes that the report should have read "John of John and Esther Agard" and Storrs descendants assumed thus.] The monument erected over her grave by Charles Storrs reads "Esther Agard m 12-14-1685, d 4-13-1730 in the 89th year of her age." - Roberts' Agard Genealogy 6
